The discerning collector understands that they can own a masterpiece created at a human scale.
— Tiffany Dubin

Tiffany Dubin’s career over the past twenty years has spanned the worlds of fashion, art, and jewelry, including auction houses and retail ventures. Her unique expertise lies at the intersection of art, fashion, and jewelry.

As Sotheby's Artist Jewelry Specialist, Tiffany created and spearheaded the inaugural auction "Art as Jewelry as Art," embodying the current zeitgeist that transcends traditional collecting boundaries. She introduced a diverse range of 20th-century visual artists whose work crosses boundaries by blending their jewelry with their sculpture, painting, and design practices.

Examples from her recent auction at Sotheby’s include selected artists: Alexander Calder, Man Ray, Salvador Dalí, Lucio Fontana, and Picasso. With this auction, Mrs. Dubin was instrumental in creating a new genre for the auction house and, as a result, has shined a spotlight on wearable art as an important and often overlooked aspect of these artists' portfolios.

Mrs. Dubin was also pivotal in bringing the fashion world into the auction houses. She founded Sotheby’s Fashion Department as a viable and lucrative profit center, orchestrating auctions dedicated to 20th-century design and fashion. These multidimensional showcases explored couture, ready-to-wear, photography, illustration, and a spectrum of accessories, creating another collecting genre within the decorative arts category.

Her entrepreneurial journey continued outside the auction house when she opened a retail store within a store, “Tiffany Dubin’s Lair” at New York City’s iconic Henri Bendel department store, where she specialized in showcasing innovative home decor from the 1950s to the 1980s.

Tiffany is a USPAP-compliant appraiser and fluent in French. She is also the co-author of "Vintage-Style: Buying and Wearing Classic Vintage Clothes," collaborating with cultural historian Ann Berman for HarperCollins.

Mrs. Dubin lectures around the country on topics ranging from “Appraising Jewelry,” “Wearable Sculpture,” and “Defining and Collecting Artist Jewelry.” She has appeared at the 92nd Street Y, the American Appraiser Conference, the Museum of Art and Design, and various other select venues.

She began her career as an associate curator for the US State Department’s Art in Embassy Program, a role that led to her joining Sotheby’s. Mrs. Dubin holds a BFA in International Relations from Georgetown University and a Professional Certificate in Fine and Decorative Arts from New York University.
